In Sopron for the evening. Took a walk around earlier, and purchased two nicely embroidered handkerchiefs. We are singing at a hotel...it is one of the Best Westerns, which I found rather amusing, but it is lovely. Had an amazing dinner. The dessert was fruit...asian pear, pineapple, apple, starfruit, mango, ruby grapefruit, persimmon, melon, watermelon. And we had tomatoes, and different kinds of salad. It was heavenly. Austria has yet to master the concept of fresh, green vegetables. There was also asparagus wrapped in bacon, and chicken cooked with garlic, which were both really good. The old section of Sopron is quite lovely, though the shops all seem to consist of local embroidered tablecloths, vests, and various forms of pottery. Oh, and there was champagne with the dinner that was quite good, even though alcohol is bad for the voice. Oh well. Even better, Iűm writing this from the computer in the lobby, which is FREE...but the orchestra is almost done with the Haydn symphony, so I need to go get ready. Had a voice lesson this morning from Jill, my teacherűs friend, and the alto soloist. She has a very different approach, but I think I learned some very good things from it. My German still seems to be improving. Nothing like immersion, after all. I am getting a lot better at understanding numbers, also, and have memorized a few more adjectives, also. Mom, I assumed that you wouldn´t want paprika, so I didn´t buy any for you. After all, I can´t remember the last time we used any in our cooking. |
